WINNERS OF SYRACUSE’S ‘UNSUNG HEROES AWARD’ TO HOST REGIONAL BOXING EVENT

SYRACUSE, NY., November 1, 2017 –– Faith Hope Community Center announced today that the organization will be pairing up with J Real Entertainment  to host a regional amateur boxing event. The event, set to be held in March 2018, is to raise awareness for the center and raise money for the center’s mission. Faith Hope is a community center on Syracuse’s south side, which hosts a boxing program that works to combat youth violence in the city. The boxing event will begin promptly at 7 p.m. on March 14, 2018 at the Oncenter in Syracuse, New York.

Faith Hope was recently honored as the winner’s of the Unsung Heroes Award. The annual award, which is part of Syracuse University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, recognizes a local organization that works to create real, positive change in the Syracuse community. Co-founders Bob Harrison and Ed Beauford were chosen for the center’s efforts combating Black-on-Black crime throughout Syracuse.

“The center’s mission has always been about the kids,” Harrison said. “Our goal has always been to leave the world with something better than what we came into. I hope we succeed.”

The amateur boxing show, set for March, will help raise money to revitalize the center’s equipment and offerings, some of which include mentoring, guidance and character development programs and activities for the urban youth.

“The center works to serve a local, high-risk population that has a target on its back,” stated Laura Iodice, board member and program director at Faith Hope. “This is a population of kids that we are believe in and want to give another chance. With this boxing event, we hope the public will rally behind the fight and help get more youth off the streets.”

Tickets will be sold for $25 and go on sale beginning January 1, 2018 at www.faithhopesyr.org or by calling 315- 476- 7942. Tickets will also be made for purchase at the Oncenter’s box office.
